Reasons for Fitness Screening Tests


In our class we were asked to do some fitness screening tests on ourselves, we were put in partners my partner was Linzi
We done some screening tests such as weight , height, blood pressure and body fat.


Weight x

We used scales to measure our weight, these measure your weight in stone and ounces , pounds , and kilograms.

Linzi and I preferred not to display our results and kept in confidential to ourselves



Height x
We moved on and measured out height. to measure our height we used a measuring stick. this involved in standing next to it feet flat on the floor then the plate came down rested on your head and measured your height. there are markings down the measure stick and a marking on the head plate match them and that is your height it measures in foot and in inches.

Blood Pressure x
After these two test we moved on to Blood Pressure, your normal blood pressure should be round about 120 over 80 around the 140 mark is too high this is not a bad thinng as it could just be caused by stress

so we tested each others Blood Pressure using a small wrist monitor for your blood pressure.

Jemma : 126 over 71

My results were good a little high but i put that down to stress haha

Body Fat x


There are many places on the body which you can measure fat the four main places are
*BICEP
*TRICEP
*SCAPULA (under shoulder blade)
*HIP (just above the bone)

The fat on your body can be measured with a Skin Fold Caliper. It is measured in millimetres for a more accurate reading.

Again Linzi and I preferred not to display our results and kept in confidential to ourselves

The picture above is an example of a Par Q. This should be filled in before you ask anyone to take part in any fitness Testing for example the bleep test, the cooper test etc...

This form contains relevant questions to let the fitness instructer know if your have any health problems issues or recent injuries etc...
This lets you know wether the participant is able to take part in certain fitness testing









Reasons for Fitness Testing x

Fitness testing is a way of gathering information about the skill and health components of an athletes or non athletes fitness. Testing can take place in a number of environments,an out door running track, sports hall/gymnasium and a laboratory, with laboratory testing being the most accurate, however there is still a large range of tests that can be carried out, away from a laboratory, which provide a lot of useful information.

Reasons for Fitness Testing

*To evaluate a training program, to see if it is helping the athlete or sports participant in achieiving set goals

*To measure fitness levels following a bad injury, illness or following the end of season :

*To assist in setting goals

*To determine health status (in the non-sporting population)

*Talent identification

*To highlight the strengths and weakness of an athlete or sports participant enabling a training program to be thought out which addresses the findings.

*To aid motivation

Health Screening x

There are many reasons to perform a health screening, both for you and your trainer.
To identify possible health conditions and risk factors that could place you at risk for certain activities.
A health screening can help a trainer to decide what activities and exercises that should be included in your workout.
Often they can provide modifications to those exercises which may have caused you trouble in the past.
It helps you and your trainer to communicate your needs and concerns.

My Sport x


A have a variety of different sports e.g Dancing, Swimming and Skiing but i think my favourite is swimming. ive always had a passion for swimming. I used to swim for glasgow when i was 10 years old. I gave it up because of when starting high school as it was too heavy a work load on top of school work and my dance school i attended.

I love dancing and attended Carrie McElhinney dance school for 11 years not long left due to college and working. i also have my teaching award in dancing and attended dance competitions which i earned alot of trophes and wore effective costumes

My recent sport now is skiing i have been skiing twice with my college group ive been to Austria and Italy i'd love to go bk on a skiing holiday but i might b resticted because i tore ligaments in my knee from the last skiing holiday in Italy their in march :( i'm still holding strong thou hehe

Cooper Test x

On monday the 7th september 2009 hn1 class planned and participated in a cooper test, this involved ten minutes of planning a 230metre length track was measured out accurately with cones every 12 metres along the riverside.


There were a few things that restricted the runners on the way down the sun was beating down and they were running in to the wind which wasnt totally ideal conditions but the class carried the test out in an outstanding fashion. It was well layed out and you had to keep your own distance from start to start again it was 460metres and along the way every 12 metres was cones to give you more accurate finish.


The lenght of time the cooper test lasts for is twelve minutes. We carried out the test to see peoples level of fitness , cardiovascular endurance and stamina then we measured our distances against a table of scores on a fitness testing website.

About Me x


hiyahh :D
My name is jemma i'm 18 years old, stay in Drumchapel. I attend clydebank college training to be a wee sports coacher woooo. In the 3rd year at the moment alryt actually, well so far lol. I work at sainburys in Drumchapel retail park used to work in a dog grooming shop in old drumchapel called pampered paws :) love animals :). My favourite sports are Volleyball Skiing and Step Aerobics. My interests are dancing and swimming. I love teaching dance and would eventually like to run my own dance school. I love swimming i used to swim for glasgow a few years ago and now at the moment i am finally a qualified lifeguard. I will soon get a picture for you which will be some of the girls from my college class :D
